Rob Barrington
Rob Barrington is an established New Zealand artist with a career spanning over three decades in the sign and design industry. His extensive experience includes collaborations with illustrators and mural artists, creating everything from intricate magazine cartoons to large-scale murals across the country. Throughout his commercial career, Rob continued to refine his personal artistic practice, exploring a variety of media and techniques.
Rob is a versatile multimedia artist who works across pen and ink, fine brush, acrylics, oils, and digital animation. With years of experience as a commercial artist, he blends traditional techniques with modern methods, creating everything from small-scale works to large compositions. His art reflects his diverse experiences as a surfer, musician, and artist, drawing inspiration from his time living in Whanganui, Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and now Taranaki. Rob’s newly relocated studio is a hub for his creative projects, where the beach and surfing lifestyle continue to inspire his work.
Since 2020, Rob has dedicated himself fully to his art, working in acrylics, oils, mixed media, pen and ink, and fine brush across canvas, board, and paper. His current body of work draws on a lifetime of creative exploration, weaving together memories and experiences to produce evocative compositions inspired by both urban and natural landscapes. Rob’s work is characterized by its depth, technical skill, and the thoughtful narratives embedded in each piece, making him a distinctive presence in the contemporary art scene.
