Artist statement: I believe children exist in an intuitive, spiritual relationship with the natural world. Their pockets brim with found talismans; stones, sticks, flowers and insects, each one chosen and imbued with a private power. They build altars and mix potions, moving through a landscape alive with unseen things, attuned to secrets and enchantments that adults have lost the language for.
This summer, my son and daughter have run feral, with dirty fingernails and sticky faces, wholly absorbed in that wild magic. I remain on the outside, an observer at the threshold of a liminal world I once knew but am no longer permitted to enter.
