I explore the intersection of design and craft through the lens of playful creation. Inspired by the act of making itself, my process is a meditative journey that emphasizes craftsmanship and intentionality. Using building blocks and off-cuts of wood, I invite viewers to engage with the joy of making. The tactile nature of wood allows me to connect deeply with the materials, reflecting my belief that the essence of design lies in the harmony between utility and artistic expression. My art evokes nostalgia and curiosity, inspiring others to reconnect with their inner child and embrace the endless possibilities of play.

About Samuel

Sam is a fine arts graduate from Unitec with a focus on installation and sculpture. He furthered his studies by pursuing postgraduate studies at Elam, honing his skills in creating immersive environments and sculptural works. Sam’s artistic practice extends beyond traditional boundaries, as he collaborates with artist friends to explore the space of making furniture. His creative endeavours also include crafting pedestals for Tyrone te Waa, showcasing his versatility in both practical and conceptual aspects of art. Through their diverse experiences and collaborative spirit, Sam continues to push the boundaries of contemporary art, forging new pathways in installation, sculpture, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
