Pūanga and Matariki do not speak only to the physical world; they also acknowledge the state of the mind, the wellbeing of the spirit, and the health of one’s wairua.

As we move through life, we carry many concerns and burdens. These arise from the challenges we encounter each day when we step out into the world. Some are shaped by political landscapes, while others emerge from the realities of everyday domestic life.

We face the demands of work and the responsibilities required to provide a safe and secure environment, not only for ourselves but also for those who are under our care.

Often, we wear masks to face the world and its many distractions. These masks may protect us, but they can also conceal our struggles. Over time, the weight of these burdens can cloud the mind, diminish our wellbeing, and challenge the strength of our spirit.

Pūanga and Matariki invite us to pause and reflect. They remind us to acknowledge our journeys, honour those who have come before us, and nurture the wellbeing of our wairua. In doing so, we find strength, resilience, and hope for the path that lies ahead.

We live under many pressures — culture, money, rising costs, fuel prices, conflict, social media, relationships, love, and hate. These forces shape our decisions, our identities, and the paths we walk. Many people find themselves working simply to survive, while their passions and dreams wait in the background. The tension between earning a living and living with purpose is a struggle shared across generations. Yet within these pressures lie resilience, creativity, and the enduring human desire to find meaning, connection, and fulfilment in a rapidly changing world.
