Artist Bio

Sarah has taken a while to find her identity as a painter. She has always had a love of art and began with a degree in Architecture from Victoria University of Wellington.

During a period working and studying overseas Sarah had time to rediscover her love of art, and in 2020 she returned to NZ to pursue painting. In 2021 she completed a year-long mentorship with the figurative painter Zarahn Southon.

Working from life, her work draws our attention to the beautiful moments in the landscape that most of us would miss. Reminding us that we are just ‘passing through’, and urging us to reflect on the impact we have on our surroundings.

Born in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), growing up in Whangārei and studying in Te Whanganui a Tara (Wellington). She is now based between Tāmaki Makaurau and the wild places of NZ. Sarah is currently working for the Department of Conservation (DOC) on the Hen and Chicks Islands, in Northland. Whilst living on these remote nature reserves she is dedicating every free moment to plein air painting.
