This contemporary taiaha, titled Te Kaha o Rātā represents my deepening journey into the traditions of Māori carving. Carved from New Zealand rātā, the weapon’s structural strength honours the warrior spirit. The head features a meticulously carved upoko, brought to life with iridescent pāua shell eyes that look both inward and forward. Adorned with a striking tauri (collar) and dark feathers, the piece is finished with natural oils to highlight the rich, organic grain colours of the native timber.
