DEPOT Takes Over Iconic 3 Vic Road Council Borough Offices to Support Artist Studio Spaces in Devonport

DEPOT is excited to announce its expansion into the historic Council Borough offices at 3 Vic Road, Devonport. The move will see DEPOT adding to its current operations and spaces, supporting 15 artists across 7 new studio spaces, including Artist Collective, Pigeonhole.

Working with the team at Peninsula Capital, DEPOT is excited to be helping meet the need for local artist studio spaces. This initiative reflects DEPOT’s ongoing commitment to support creatives and to grow the creative economy in Devonport and Tāmaki Makaurau.

“When I first joined DEPOT and met with local artists, I asked them what was the most useful thing we could do to support them, and they all said studio space. This felt like a challenging ask at the time, so we’re thrilled we’ve been able to help.’ said Amy Saunders, Director of DEPOT.

Devonport has a long history of being a creative destination, but over the years this has waned. Saunders says, ‘We have an incredible community of creatives and makers in Devonport and we want to support them and revive Devonport as a creative place to live and visit.’

The move into level 1 of the Borough offices is a major milestone for DEPOT, which will continue to champion local arts and culture through its gallery and recording studios on Clarence Street and through the creative employment and development programmes run out of Whare Toi on Mt Takarunga.

Supporting youth collective Pigeonhole’s move into 3 Vic Rd as part of this initiative was important says Saunders, “It reflects DEPOT’s focus on supporting diverse creative voices and providing opportunities for young people to develop sustainable careers, a cornerstone of DEPOT’s purpose and mission.”

“We believe that by investing in arts and culture, towns and communities can thrive,” added Saunders. “Ultimately our goal is to not only support our local creative community but to attract new visitors to Devonport, creating a sustainable and vibrant cultural destination that benefits everyone.’

On behalf of the collective I can say that we are so excited and grateful to activate 3 Vic Road into a vibrant artist hub.
