What's On

Our first DEPOT Shop, Toi Toa Maker of the Month is Arapeta Hākura. Every month we’ll be featuring one of our artists and their works available in our gallery shop, so be sure to stop by and view the collection!

Arapeta Hākura is a nationally recognised Takatāpui curator and artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau and Whaingaroa – Aotearoa, Auckland and Raglan New Zealand. He is a weaver of stories using the poetics of adornment, performance, photography, and cinema, often drawing upon various traditional artforms passed down through their whakapapa (lineage).

Arapeta creates a range of artworks made to be cherished within your Whare (home) Puna (collections) and on your Tinana (body). All pieces carry a whakapapa (genealogy) that connects the owner to intimate moments, landscapes, oceans, and people. Every piece is a taonga made to be treasured for generations to come.

Currently Hākura is a Doctoral Candidate and graduate lecturer at the University of Auckland.
