Blake Feeney: Parvus Magnum
February 24, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - March 7, 2018 @ 3:00 pm
Parvus Magnum is the debut solo exhibition for emerging Auckland artist Blake Feeney.
Modern teachings in art can only take a student of the arts so far.
A Magnum Opus is a term used to identify an artist’s most important or greatest work. A Magnum Opus in its traditional sense is a significant work of art which strictly obeys the fundamental laws of nature. The old masters not only identified these laws and applied them to their canvas, they understood them as a spiritual process that takes place within. Not just within themselves, but within everything.
“The idea of generating art has been washed out over the years. I now understand art to represent the conflicts we face as a species trying to understand itself. Raw materials of this earth, combined with subject matter are used to identify these internal conflicts that we are constantly fighting within ourselves and as a society. The old masters knew these teachings would be lost in time. They took it upon themselves to preserve these teachings within their own works. Over the past 6 months I have been interpreting these manuscripts and in this collection of 24 paintings, I have followed these laws carefully; I have realised that these fundamental teachings truly do occur in every single aspect of life.” – Blake Feeney –
You will be able to meet Blake and hear him discuss his artistic methods and processes at a special Artists Talk on Sunday 25 February, 2018, from 2:00pm – 3:30pm in the Main Gallery.
