Creative Rights for Creative People Workshop
We know that creative people don’t like boring talks, so we’re taking a complex topic, and making it as painless as possible.
About this event
Creators have the ambition to share creativity with the world and we’re here to help you bolster your artistic career, by adding tools to help you strengthen the foundation of your business.
In this free, one hour workshop, funded by Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage, and presented by Copyright Licensing NZ, Karen Workman will provide an overview of our rights as creators, to build on our understanding, and guide in strengthening business practices.
In the workshop we’ll define and discuss:
- demystifying your creative rights
- how copyright applies to you and what the law says
- how to make sure you’re doing all you can to prevent unauthorised exploitation of your work
This workshop is open to creatives and artists, or anyone who has an interest in creative rights.
About Karen Workman:
Born in Taupō, Karen has been around the world and back again, with a hand in the creative arts at every turn. She gained her B.C.A. in Marketing and Management from Victoria University of Wellington, her Doctorate in Piano performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Ohio, USA, and her certificate from the life of hard knocks by working with parents of child actors in Hollywood for 8 years.
Karen also speaks regularly at various talent showcases in the USA, and has developed several curriculums for film programmes and training for young actors. She is passionate about sharing information and with the majority of her family working in the arts, creative rights is a frequent dinner table subject.
When not researching, learning and teaching (who are we kidding – that’s all the time!) Karen enjoys travel, chasing events at theatres, films, street art, concerts, galleries, and bookstores, meeting new friends and having interesting conversations over a chai latte.
