About the Workshop
Learn how to make your own felt treasures! These colorful and customizable pieces are great as gifts, holiday ornaments, and home decor. Elyse will guide you through the process of designing and hand-sewing a felt piece of your choice, from stenciling the design to sewing and decorating.
We’ll supply the fabric, beads, and ornament ribbons. You don’t need prior sewing experience, just bring yourself, your creativity, and your sense of fun!
About Elyse Flores
Elyse is a Devonport-based artist who works in a wide range of mediums, including fabric, beading, coloured pencil, paint, and (most frequently) Micron pen. As someone who enjoys travelling and trying new things, Elyse is frequently inspired by the places she’s visited and the many techniques artists use to express themselves across the world. She is largely self-taught, and loves to experiment with different tools and styles.
Elyse’s illustrations often have a fantastical or dark fairy-tale feel, heavily detailed and reflecting her love of Frida Kahlo paintings and Guillermo del Toro movies. Her fabric pieces are more light-hearted, combining the beads popular during her teen years with the embroidery styles used where she grew up in Mexico and the American Southwest. Elyse’s work has been shown at artist collectives in Arizona and the DEPOT store in Devonport, and she hopes to one day expand into book illustration.
