First Thursdays: World of Wearable Art – A Journey Through Creation with Beatrice Carlson

Join us for First Thursdays in Devonport – Te Hau Kapua
Join us as local artist Beatrice Carlson presents a talk on the World of Wearable Art.
Get close up to selected pieces from three of her 10 finalist World of Wearable Art garments (2010-2019); made from Perspex, beetle wings and recycled miniatures. Carlson will talk about the story behind each of her pieces, from shoes to pairing adornment jewellery, her use of these unusual materials, her inspirations and how the garments are constructed.
After her talk, Carlson will demonstrate how to heat and shape Perspex, and how to make an adjustable sliding cord necklace. Bring your smart phone to record the demo!
Tickets are $30 and cover all materials and refreshments courtesy of our hospitality partners Man O’ War, Toi Toi and Swiftsure Vineyards.
This workshop is suitable for ages 15+.
Koha will be accepted upon entry.
About Beatrice Carlson
Beatrice Carlson is represented in New Zealand as well as internationally, with her work appearing in juried shows in Japan, New Mexico, Bulgaria, United Arab Emirates and Portugal.
10 times finalist of the WOW Awards 2010-2019, Carlson has been runner up in 2010 and winner in 2012 in the South Pacific Section. Her garments are part of the World of Wearable Art private collection.
