Lydia Tyler-Davies: Bird Puns
30 Oct – 21 November
DEPOT Lounge

Exhibition Opening:
Friday 30 October, 6pm – 7pm
Artwork: Lydia Tyler-Davies, ‘Rifleman‘ , acrylic on canvas
About the Exhibition
Lydia represents birds through the layering of references to everyday objects and pop culture on the canvas. Working with acrylics and spray-paint, her current work is the culmination of her interest in ecology and puns, deconstructing bird names and turning them into art celebrating Aotearoa’s incredible bird life.
Juxtaposing the absurdity of the names we give to our birds with the natural beauty of the birds themselves, this series of visual puns creates pictorial games that engage viewers in their knowledge of New Zealand bird names.
About the Artist
Lydia is an emerging artist with an interest in painting and ceramics. She is a local artist based in Northcote and studying fine arts at The ELAM School of Fine Arts. She grew up snorkelling and birdwatching and this love for the environment has been a big driver of her artistic practice.
