New Zealand – In the Mind’s Eye is an exhibition acknowledging that as a person with Asperger’s Syndrome, Yaniv Janson’s mind observes and communicates in a different way to the people around him.
The media often markets the New Zealand landscape as a commodity for commercial consumption both here and overseas. Although we all may look at the same scenery, Yaniv typically focuses on landscape features that are different to non-autistic people and appreciates what other people may overlook or take for granted as ordinary.
Some of Yaniv’s work seeks to visually preserve unique features of our current landscape. Others depict features of the New Zealand environment that could potentially be lost. Yaniv’s paintings are a way to raise awareness about our changing environment using aesthetic channels.
