Arapeta Hākura
Arapeta Hākura is a nationally recognised Takatāpui curator and artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau and Whaingaroa – Aotearoa, Auckland and Raglan New Zealand. He is a weaver of stories using the poetics of adornment, performance, photography, and cinema, often drawing upon various traditional art form passed down through their whakapapa (lineage).
Arapeta creates a range of artworks made to be cherished within your Whare (home) Puna (collections) and on your Tinana (body). All pieces carry a whakapapa (genealogy) that connects the owner to intimate moments, landscapes, oceans, and people. Every piece is a taonga made to be treasured for generations to come.
Currently Hākura is a Doctoral Candidate and graduate lecturer at the University of Auckland.
