Mickey Smith
Mickey Smith is a conceptual artist and photographer. For over two decades, her practice has been engaged with a longstanding inquiry into libraries, books and archives — in particular the social significance of their physical existence or disappearance.
In 2018, Te Tuhi published her work As You Will… Carnegie Libraries of the South Pacific, a book focused on the 25 Carnegie libraries erected in New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji. Her first artist’s book, Denudation, published by Hassla, was included in the photobook installation, A Different Kind of Order: The ICP Triennial in 2013.
A resident of Devonport since 2012, Mickey’s work has been included in numerous exhibitions throughout the United States and New Zealand. Mickey has received grants and awards from the McKnight Foundation, CEC ArtsLink, Americans for the Arts and Creative New Zealand. Mickey is represented by Sanderson Contemporary in Auckland, and Danziger Gallery in New York and Los Angeles.
