Beginners Weaving Workshop with Kiriana O’Connell

As part of our Matariki 2023 celebrations, join exhibiting artist Kiriana O’Connell as she shows how to weave a rourou (small basket).
“Nāku te rourou, nāu te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi.”
“With your food basket and my food basket, the people will thrive.”
This whakataukī embodies one of the philosophies of weaving (and life!) – everyone has something to offer and working together brings wellbeing to all.
This workshop will include a kōrero around harvesting and tikanga associated with mahi raranga. Participants will make a rourou (small basket) over two hours.
We’ll have refreshments on site throughout the event.
This is a free event, all (ages 14+) are welcome to attend!
