Sefton Rani's work involves the concept of “urban tapa” which is taking the traditional form of tapa and reenergising it with modern materials, methods and motifs that reflect the contemporary environment we live in. His work is primarily created with the use of paint skins where paint is applied on
glass or plastic and when dry, peeled off and collaged to form layers that represent time and the history of the object or surface.
double-knotted shoelace, is Trixi Rosa’s first solo exhibition and also the title of her debut poetry collection, recently published by Swimming with Elephants Press (USA). This exhibition is an intricate dialogue between selected poems from the book alongside their responding artworks. Through written work, performance and immersive audio-visual installation, the artist exposes bone in an act of self-suture. Using personal narrative to carve an awkward inquiry into the intersections of identity, place, intimacy and shame.

Depot Artspace’s first Pre-loved Re-loved exhibition, an exciting project inspired by our local community, was held in 2014 to assist owners to find a new home for their once-loved fine art and objects. We are excited to re-introduce the exhibition in February 2021. You can expect to see a large variety of art works including painting, ceramics, photography, sculpture and more, available for sale at the Depot directly from their previous owners.
In anticipation of Greer Twiss’ sculpture Flight Support for Albatross and its upcoming installation on Devonport’s Victoria Wharf, the artist will be exhibiting a series of maquettes and early works at Depot Artspace this March.
In the company of these miniatures, an artist’s talk scheduled for Saturday 13th of March will offer a rare glimpse into Twiss’ creative process for each iteration of Flight Support for Albatross.
This exhibition is a tribute to the vision of those people who work to preserve the sea and shore birds, and the environment that sustains them.
Inside/Out brings together the evocative practices of emerging artists Lucie Blazevska and Iris Stella—two young painters with a shared interest in organic form, texture and movement. Bringing the interiority of the creative process to the physical site of each work, Blazevska and Stella’s built-up surfaces break down the false dualism of inner and outer worlds. While Blazevska’s compositions are drawn from the unbridled flow of creativity itself, aerial land- and seascapes inform Stella’s abstract relief paintings.
Ten Last Strokes, the artist collective to which Brenda belongs, has become a vital connection point, both artistically and personally, for all its members. During the last 12 months, with a number of the members classified as part of the 'vulnerable' population, they have become even more aware of personal needs.
In this series of portraits and photographs Brenda seeks to capture something of the atmosphere created when the group meet and work together, and to introduce the special women involved.
"Abandon" is a multi-media performance held here at Depot Artspace by Fear Up Harsh (Michael Ferriss--synthesizers and Jeffrey Gane--percussion) with guest singer Paula Green. They will be performing with a film backdrop by cinematographer Mark Solter (USA).
Colourful artist, Tracey Williams, is based in the Hokianga but currently travelling around the North Island in her bus, accompanied by her cat and a swag of vibrant eye-popping paintings, some of which pay homage to Frida Kahlo but which celebrate life in general in Aotearoa.
Brenda will be playing an intimate concert amongst the artwork in her At TImes Like These exhibition, featuring songs from her new solo album, 70, plus favourites from her extensive back catalogue.
